Colors & Vibrations - Color Theory

Colors & Vibrations - Color Theory

The energy wavelengths of color can have a significant effect upon a person's health, psychological condition and general well-being. Different ones have very definitive effects upon our muscular and nervous systems. Some colors relax people, some stimulate them, some seem to instigate a positive mental state and some seem to bring on depression.

Color
Feelings Generated
RedStimulating, excitement
GreenRelaxation
BlueCalm, soothing
YellowCheerful, positive
BlackDepressing, tired

The color redstimulates; greenrelaxes and promotes feelings of well-being; black can be a depressant; blueis calming for the emotions. Bright yellowsand orangeshave been found to make recovering patients more positive and cheerful, greatly speeding their recovery due to an increase in their own desire to get better.

Colors can be used to restore physical vitality and depleted energy to organs of the body. This is certainly not a "new age" discovery either. Pythagoras experimented with the effects of color on health. Color therapy was used not only in the golden age of Greece, but in Egypt's "healing temples of light." There are many practitioners of color therapy who can confirm the dramatic positive effects upon the health of their clients. If the body is healthy, being given the proper diet, exercise, exposure to sunlight, and so on then it should naturally filter out needed colors from white light as necessary. However, if health is not optimum then the color needs to be supplied to the body in some way.

Phototherapy, or exposing the body to colored lights, has been used to treat illnesses and it has been found that certain glandular functions responds to specific colors. The secretions of the glands become stimulated, which in turn gives help to particular parts of the body. It was found that by treating specific organs through color therapy the endocrine system was stimulated, the lymphatic system promoted better drainage and thus bacteria and rotten tissue were flushed from the body. As a result, accumulations of toxins within the body were also eliminated.

Colors are light waves of specific lengths. Sir Isaac Newton, also credited with discovering the law of gravity, found that when sunlight was passed through a prism seven distinct and separate colors were observed. These are the colors of the well-known spectrum: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. These colors are visible in nature in rainbows or the polar lights.

Light is simply radiant energy which is visible to our eyes. The vibrations vary in size and vibrations of light less than 32 impulses per second are invisible as well as inaudible. The speed at which light travels is 186,000 miles per second. The electromagnetic spectrum is made up of a range of wavelengths that can be as large as hundreds of miles in length to as small as a thousandth of a millimeter.

The variations of light, heat and color are in direct proportion to the variance of size of these wavelengths. Although extremely short wavelengths may be invisible, they still have color, it's just that our eyes cannot pick it up. No medium is necessary for transmission of light rays, as is necessary with sound. They easily travel through space. Modern physics classes color according to wavelength, measured in "angstrom units" (A.U.). One angstrom unit is approximately one hundred-millionth of a centimeter. The approximate range of wavelengths of colors is as follows:

Purple = 4300 – 4600 A.U.

Blue = 4700 – 5000 A.U.

Green = 5000 – 5500 A.U.

Yellow = 5800 – 5900 A.U.

Orange = 5900 – 6000 A.U.

Red = 6000 – 6700 A.U.

There are many different types of electromagnetic energy sources and the waves of the electromagnetic spectrum have many varied uses. Some are positively used while other electromagnetic radiations may be dangerous. Here is a list of the most well known:

1) Cosmic rays, which are very short ways, are the ones most important in gem therapy, as they bombard the Earth from outer space.

2) Gamma rays, used to treat some cancers, are given off by radioactive materials such as radium.

3) The x-rays used to take pictures within our bodies are thought to also cause cancers.

4) Ultraviolet rays which tan our bodies (from the sun only), are used for photography and can destroy moulds and bacteria.

5) Visible light, originating from the sun, other stars and incandescent light bulbs allows our eyes to function.

6) Infrared (short) rays (from a great heat source) are used to take pictures in total darkness.

7) Long rays, also from heat source, are used for cooking.

8) Radio waves of a high-frequency oscillating circuit transmit sounds.

9) Very high frequency television waves transmit both sound and pictures.

10) The very long waves of alternating electrical current generate light, heat and power.

Color and sound both radiate energy. All living beings radiate energy, although these emanations are invisible to most of us, yet some living things, such as fireflies or glow-worms do emit visible radiation. Both color and sound vibrations, unlike most of those mentioned in the above list, may be used without harmful side-effects to treat many physical and emotional disorders.
